Nara Craft Museum

　Nara City has been an international cultural sightseeing city for ages, which harbored an east and west culture exchange through the Silk Road. Nara City has been prospering as a cradle of Japanese culture and traditional industrial arts which are famous throughout the world.
　The execution of the Naramachi Scenery Conservation Plan, which is to preserve the old scenery of Nara, and the Naramachi Prosperity Plan, which is to help the city prosper. Nara city promotes the public facility maintenance, the conservation of the traditional arts, culture, and entertainment.
　Nara Craft Museum is a facility to promote Nara industrial arts, based on three philosophies: 1. preservation of culture 2. creativity 3. availability to the public.

Service Information

Permanent display of Nara industrial arts
You can appreciate Nara industrial arts, such as lacquer ware, one-knife carving, Akahada-yaki, Kanshitsu, Kogakumen, Nara sarashi, Deer-horn workmanship, and the excellent works around the year. Also to appreciate the created spirits which have been cultivating for ages and their techniques, we display the work-tools, and so on.
Art class
For the persons who are interested in Nara industrial arts, the classes teach you the basic techniques with the knowledge of industrial arts.

One-man show exibition space (charged)
For the work-display of industrial artists, we lend the space with a charge. Applications will be taken at Nara Craft Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except closed days)
Industrial arts consultation
We have consultation for training the successors of traditional industrial arts.

The following are all in the Charged-Admission-Fee catagory.
1. If you charge over 500 yen per person as an admission fee.
2. If you charge membership dues or cooperation dues.
3. If you invite the members by the membership system.
4. If you issue the invitations by the merchandise turnover.

Holidays mean National holidays. Weekdays mean Monday through Friday, except Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
In the case of overtime usage, every one hour (included less than one hour) will be charged 130 % of an hour of your reservation hours.

Hall Overview

　There are permanent displays of industrial artists' works, one-man show exibition space for an individual, a group, and enterprise works (application is necessary), the information room for the art reference, the training room for an art workshop, and the office.
