Amagatsuji-cho Nishiike is located within the city. The span of the tomb is 227m. There is a trench around the tomb filled with water. It is said that this tomb was made for the Suinin Emperor XXI and it is named the Sugaharafushimi East Tomb.
It is a Shinto belief, that the simple and plain beauty emphasize the spiritual rite. The tomb floated on water represented a spiritual place. I greatly admire the rhythm that says, the tomb is reflected on the ripples of the water. When you see the Suinin tomb from the train window, the beauty is quite striking and is very Japanese. We like to think this tomb is equal to the pyramids in Egypt.
