Jyuurin-in

By Michio Shiraishi

The main temple of this national treasure is famous for the elegant and rhythmic "Kaerumata" on the upper level between the pillars. It is a modest and beautiful building in Naramachi. The Tourin-in is famous as the Sekibutsukon. There is the Jido Bodhisattva which has been believed since the Middle Ages to be the idol of the Sekibutsukon, and the Shaka Buddha and the Yaroku Bodhisattva placed on its sides. When I sat in front of the dark granite of the Sekibutsukon, I joined my palms together and had a feeling of floating between this world and the equinoctial.
