Makigonou

By Kiyoshi Masui

The Makigonou, which is traditional entertainment and was started a thousand years ago in Nara, still performs on the Hanjyaku-no-Shiba at the Kasuga Taisha and the Koufuku-ji every May.The Nougaku starts in the early evening, and as the sun sets, it becomes a competitive performance on the stage with torches. The elegant and profound world which is cultivated by this old tradition is seen.I was not satisfied with the rules under which I did my interview, but I tried to express my impression of the Makigonou obediently.
