Toushoudai-ji dansen maki

By Fumihiko Kamada

Toushoudai-ji precinct with its fresh leaves smell and solemn silence has been around since the Tenpyou period. After the Buddhist service, the drums are beaten, and pretty hand fans from the balconey are given to the visitors. I imagine in the old days people took these fans in order to have good luck. I have the illusion that the Sokakuseidaihi Bodhisattva during the Restoration were scattering the petals of lotus. I made an effort to express the audience's roars and cheers.
