Koufuku-ji Temple (Five-storied pagoda)

By Yoshinori Sakaimoto

Koufuku-ji Temple`s five-storied pagoda is a symbol of Nara. This pagoda is a national treasure. The original pagoda was built during the Tenpyo era but over time became damaged from the elements. The present pogoda was built during the Muromachi era. Since the five-storied pagoda can be seen from anywhere, it can be used as a location marker for people who may be lost. When I stand in front of the pagoda, I feel the dignity and greatness of the pagoda. In that light and dignity, I tried to execute this work with a refreshing feeling.
