Todai-ji Temple (Nandaimon)

By Akira Kubo

I made two sketches of Niou statues in Toudai-ji Temple Nandaimon. When I was little, I couldn't go through Nandaimon by myself because I was scared to see them, so I remember using the side-entrance. Recently these statues have been repaired. I put these two statues on-line, they are realistic, noble and great works of the Kamakura era. I expressed these statues in my own way with thinking of visionary and realistic statue-works have been standing in many years.
