Burning Wakakusayama

Burning Wakakusayama

By Konomi Nakamura

The old city Nara starts burning Wakakusayama in early spring. On the night before Coming-of-Age Day, calm triple ridge lines were covered with waves of rising fire from roots and the beautiful flames start dancing. The set piece and hundreds of rockets colored the night sky. The gorgeous night festival is one of the New Year's ceremonies. For protecting the naturel environment, burning Wakakusayama has many historical romances and is very popular and loved by the people of Nara. Its a sign that spring will arrive soon.
